We are now The Empowerment Experiment. We've moved our discussion to a new blogsite. See the blog at Go NOW!

  1. I think what you are doing is long over due, we need to put dollars back into our communities and what better way than to spend money with black businesses. I am an account executive with Black Pages International Business and Online Directory one of out client's is Farmers Best Market at 1424 W 47th Street. We need to empower ourselves by buying black. I only wish we had more families that think that way. For more information on how to advertise your business in the Black Pages International Business Directory please contact Arnearry Smith (708) 798-2700 or e-mail
    Thank you

  2. Thank you so much for being brave enough to speak out about this. I have felt this way for years, but did not know where to start. I have had so many ideas that I have passed on to pastors of churches and have not seen any results. Maybe this will start some great. I am teaching my eight year old son about business, we are working on a site that he is interested in. Please take a look at what he is so excited about and let me know if I can make any changes.

Once again, thanks, and we will accept any advice you have to offer.

  3. I live and have developed a health Caribbean styled natural juice product that we distribute to other Caribbean restaurants and markets. We also sell it at our Caribbean restaurant. Silver's Delight All Natural Juice. Ms. Anderson was interviewed on a very popular black radio station and it seems that her promotion of black business has increased our sales. Although I have grownup in business and have always supported black business I have realized since opening up this restaurant that many black people dont have the same inclination. Thanks for this project. I will be following your progress. You have my support.

  4. I thank the Anderson's for helpling others toward this positive way of thinking, which should be first nature. This is an excellent way of getting people to change the way they think about supporting each other. This so very exciting and I pledge to do the same myself. I am also an entrepreneur that distributes Body Shapers. By wearing the product it enhances your health and appearance, taking you down 3 sizes! I invite people to try it because they will definitely like it. Feel free to email me at for more information. As I speak to sisters and brothers about going into this business, I noticed that MANY of them never have thought about owning their own business. Your experiment is going to have excellent results. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

  5. Isn't America great! Where else in the world could someone start such a "movement". People where I'm from have their differences and preferences and even biases like anyone anywhere in America but my first impression of the movement is one of isolationism and contiuned discrimination. I am a proud European-American but gives a rats butt what color the owner is of the places I frequent. Soul food and watermelon, Kielbasa with a side of Egg Fu Young - wake up America - we're all in this together.

"We'll take the 'ni**ers' and the ch*nks, but we don't want the Irish".
    Mel Brooks - Blazing Saddles

  6. As a proud "European American," I want to let you guys know that I support what you're doing. I just listened to Maggie's interview with Neal Conan on NPR, and was really impressed. I really hope to hear more about the project in the mainstream media.

    Best of luck.

This is a prayer answered. I just spent the last two days reading the statistics for black owned companies - It wasn't favorable. I adapted and created products that feature and educate black children about their heritage which should be inclusive of American History education.

As of today, most of my consumers and supporters are of a different persuasion. While the products I create are for every child, It saddens me, because it tells me that we, as black people, have allowed ourselves to take a 'back seat' for so long that when someone offers us the 'front seat', we're too jaded to walk forward and claim our rightful position.

We must support each other. It's crucial. It's essential! Thank you for your shear efforts. If I may help in any way, please contact me.
